Tiraapendi Wodli

The Port Adelaide Aboriginal Leadership Group called Tiraapendi Wodli was established in 2018.

The 9 member group is representative of 6 Aboriginal language groups and includes 2 young members and 2 Elders. Syd Sparrow is Tiraapendi Wodli's Independent Chairperson.

Tiraapendi Wodli’s role is to work towards new ways of working to improve community safety and wellbeing for Aboriginal families living in the Port Adelaide and western area, using a justice reinvestment approach.

Justice Reinvestment is a community centred approach which invests in locally driven and owned solutions aimed at addressing the underlying causes of crime (see JRSA website for more information about justice reinvestment).

The Tiraapendi Wodli Hub has been established at 36 Dale St, Port Adelaide.

The purpose of the Hub is to provide a practical point of contact for Aboriginal families to access the information, social and cultural support and services they need.

Contact details and more information about programs can be found on the Contact Us and Programs pages.

Tiraapendi Wodli has released the 'Tiraapendi Wodli Priority Action Plan 2019-21' which identifies priorities and projects for improving the safety, health and wellbeing of local Aboriginal families. These priorities were identified through a series of discussions with local Aboriginal community members and stakeholders.

The Action Plan focuses on 4 key target populations including:

  1. Primary school aged children
  2. Young people
  3. Men
  4. Families accessing services.

Tiraapendi Wodli logo: Jeremy Bilney (a founding Tiraapendi Wodli member and an artist) created the original artwork from which the logo has been developed. The artwork represents the meaning of Tiraapendi Wodli's name in Kaurna language - 'Protecting Home'.
